Last Friday we had the first ever Founder’s Friday here at Futurelabs!
Founders Friday is a new tech, creative and digital networking event held on the last (you guessed it) Friday evening of each month at the Futurelabs’ centrally located space just off the Headrow. Its aim is to connect the Leeds digital community in a fun, casual social environment leading into Leeds Digital Drinks.
The first edition kicked off with almost 70 people from the industry and students from the universities who were eager to meet others in the entrepreneur and start up community… (oh and the free beer!). The night started with socializing from a seriously diverse crowd from start-up owners, students, tech enthusiasts and all around friendly folks. We were seriously impressed by the enthusiasm in the room!
After a few words from our hosts Steve & Owen, we launched into short presentations from a few founders (not without its technical difficulties but that’s agile for you!) who got great feedback on the night. In order we had
- Laura from Tech North (@LauraIHBennet) speaking about the Founders Programme and Northern Stars Awards
- Achille from TopScreen Media (@TopScreenMedia) speaking about some of Topscreen Media’s projects
- James from Equotion (@Equotion) speaking about developing market leading algorithms and how to raise seed funding
- Simon & Dan wrapped things up with talk about LightStart Apps (@LightStartApps)
The night closed out with an invitation from the Leeds Digital Drinks crew to continue onwards to Headrow House where it was rumoured #DigitOwl got a little too tipsy and went missing for a while. Turns out she was flapping her money maker on the dance floor while the rest of the Leeds Digital Drinks crew met and discussed the latest ideas, tech news and plans for the next week. Good drinks and times were had by all!
The next Founder’s Friday is October 28th (Halloween Edition) – sign up here early so you don’t miss out on tickets! https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/founders-friday-at-futurelabs-october-tickets-27629595865?aff=eac2
