Founders Friday 2016 into 2017

To finish the year with a bang, we lined up a real mix of tech talent across Leeds for November’s edition of Founders Friday. Despite two of the five speakers creating their presentations just an hour before, as well as one speaker (We won’t name and shame, lol, jk it was Ash) literally pulling together their slides within minutes of starting… the night actually went down pretty darn smoothly.

Emma was first up to kick start the talks at Founders Friday. She explained the incredible community spirit behind of the Leeds Startup Weekend. The 72 hour event brought a real buzz to Futurelabs and if you’d like to get involved in the next edition of the Startup Weekend, be sure to follow their social feeds on twitter and facebook @swleedsuk. Read our full write-up of the start-up weekend.

Following this, we had Gorm Lai representing the Global Game Jam. The scale of the game jam is incredible, so if you’re a game dev yourself be sure to sign up for the next event in Jan 2017. Sat from Lean Lunch then talked us through his lean startup visual mappers and debated the vision of his venture. You can follow Sat’s story on Twitter.

To wrap up the talks, Ash from Modern Afflatus delivered an inspiring talk with a few key takeaways. “Explore. Develop. Create”. We then shot across the road to Headrow House to enjoy a few cocktails with the Leeds Digital Drinks crew, discussing startup ideas, emerging tech and which brand of gin best compliments a classic cucumber tonic.
